The opening of Victoria Falls Safari Lodge created some 360 jobs at the resort, with an additional 40 support staff and management at Head Office. These numbers are gender-balanced and reflect a diversity of ethnicities.
The Lodge’s policy is to employ local skills as far as possible, with base-level staff being recruited from the local high school, trained up, and supported through college. As much as …% of the workforce is Zimbabwean. A home-grown Management Development Programme has proven highly successful in training up young hoteliers to quality managers who have risen up the ranks and are in demand from employers throughout the region. The lodge’s management relationship with the Three Cities Group of South Africa enables staff to undertake valuable exchange courses, allowing exposure and experience at other Three Cities properties in that country.
Another in-house training programme, the Wild About Safari Lodge Programme, aims to instill in every staff member a passion for the world that is Victoria Falls Safari Lodge – resort knowledge, the ‘house culture’, flora, fauna and the environment beyond the resort. This enables all members to not only interact with guests confidently, but empowers them to take charge of their environment and share this passion with all.
Importantly, VFSL prioritises HIV/AIDS education, and has trained peer educators and addresses these issues in departmental meetings.
